Character Development Program
Our Program Director and several members of the staff received training from the University of Illinois Extension on the Six Pillars of Character and “Terrific Teachable Moments Programs.”
During summer program and throughout the year we teach the Six Pillars of Character, Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship.
We teach arts and crafts, such as finger-painting, jewelry making, door hangers, and drawing. We have music instruction and singing daily. We also serve a healthy lunch and snack daily.
Mentoring Program
Our Mentoring Program is designed to build self-esteem in our youth. Adults spend time with youth for the purpose of imparting knowledge, skill and training. We have group outings such as shopping trips, lunches, museum trips and family fun centers.
We also offer homework help, rap sessions and group training sessions.
Vacation Bible School
Our VBS is a time where we teach a themed lesson to our children by age appropriate groups. We have a daily themed lesson that includes: daily bibles lessons, singing, arts and crafts, lunch, movie, and recreation time. The end of VBS is celebrated with a trip to a family fun center.
Reading for Success – Youth Literacy
This is our newest program beginning October 2008. This program is designed to reach below average readers. Our goal is to raise the overall reading levels of the area youth. We will partner with a Chicago Public School as well as a direct target to residents.
We expect to expand this literacy campaign to adults.
